Thanks to my Cleveland peeps for coming out in force and making it a really memorable occasion. We focused on mainly older material simply for the nostalgia of the moment, and figured that’s what would resonate most with folks coming out to see the band for the last time..

Hopefully we’ll see you all sometime in the fall as Secular Joy…

Dept of Last Chances

If you read this blog, you’ll know that MDID officially took down the shingle last year. All new song energies have been going to the new band, Secular Joy, and we’ll have some, I must say, pretty amazing recordings to share with you soon. In the meantime, MDID never really got a proper sendoff in the hometown(s), so we’ll be playing a couple of very special goodbye shows the weekend of July 22/23. One here in Chapel Hill and one in Cleveland. More details to come but there will be guest players from throughout the MDID history and we’ll be playing exclusively Homestead era tunes, so you don’t have to sit through versions of things from Engine of Commerce!..

Sorry for the disappearance… apparently some database changes at our web provider disabled the blog for awhile.. Today’s the first chance I’ve had to go in and fix it.

We’re working on a couple of MDID shows this summer, with some of the old band members focusing on songs from the Taller/Details Era… Will post more later..

Secular Joy recordings almost done. We’re at the mixing stage. Hopefully have something for you all to hear by the end of June/early July. No release date as of yet..

For all of you waiting for an update.. The new band, Secular Joy, now has a Facebook Page.

Secular Joy

It’s a basic 4 piece, 2gtr, drums, bass. We’re working hard on developing a prime set of songs, no filler. Up to 8 so far. No recordings as of yet, although we may be able to fix that by the end of April or so, with a few demos.

Next Appearance is live on WXYC Sunday, March 20th. 8pm.

Half Century

That’s even hard to type.. yes I will be celebrating the completion of 50 years upon this earth with a party at Nightlight in Chapel Hill on Monday 10/18. It will be a celebration of two births, as our new band will also make it’s debut on that night. Local musicians will kick off the evening playing MDID covers, and any of you all who want to bring down an instrument and join in the fun are welcome.

Also, if there’s any bands out there that want to perform an MDID cover on video and post it on youtube, we’ll play those too on a big screen. (don’t forget to send us the links!) The process will be repeated for the Cleveland crowd at Bela Dubby on the 23rd (sans the new band), along with a “roast” so I’m told, I’m thinking it’s not the meaty kind.. we’ll see exactly what that means on the day of the event… so mark your calendars.. now that I’m going over the “big” hump, I’m going to stop looking at mine…
